Lina Ogaily Bio
Lina Ogaily, born in 1973, is a British Iraqi visual artist who has lived between the Middle East and UK. She is the daughter of two Iraqi architects who helped pave the way to her artistic career. She grew up in Kuwait and later moved to England where she pursued her studies in art and design at Chelsea College of Art and later graduated with a degree in interior design from Kingston University.
Growing up her early influences included Miro, Kandinski and Picasso as well as Iraqi pioneers Jawad Salim and Dia Azzawi.
Ogaily’s design influences are evident in her visual works where linear marks, organic and geometric form as well as monochromatic color palettes all interplay to create landscapes of abstract compositions. She focuses on portrait and figurative abstraction delving into the mysterious connotations of what constitutes a human’s psyche within challenging environments.
Ogaily addresses 2 subjects that are close to her heart. Firstly, the life stories of women in contemporary Middle Eastern society; as daughters, wives and mothers. Secondly, the humanitarian refugee crisis, where she witnessed the tragedy of many family friends fleeing their terrorized/war torn countries.
Private collections include Sheihk Sultan Al-Qassimi’s Barjeel Art Foundation, Hussain Ali Harba, Elizabetta Gucci and Hill International Inc.
Her artwork has been featured and sold at the Christie’s Auction House.
